Great location and the bedroom nicely decorated, bed comfortable. Room bit small but adequate for the time we were there.
Bathroom large but needs doing up - a bath would be great and the area seems big enough for one.

We always enjoy the museum hotel, staff are helpful and polite. We were upgraded to a suite which was nice, would hive been nice with a harbour view but still a lovely room tho. It is very central, that and it's fantastic art collection are the main reason why we stay there. The Pompeii exhibition was just wonderful, a must see.

I, Beverley Scott, Martin Hughes' wife, am answering this review on his/our behalf. And I can only say how much we both enjoyed your hotel. Firstly, the service was without fault, and the decor was of such a standard, that I felt that staying there contributed to our whole holiday experience. Usually, hotels are just a place to sleep, and, not a destination of any kind whatsoever. Most hotels leave you with a feeling when you wake, that you could be anywhere in the world. The Museum Hotel certainly wasn't like that! I took photos of the decor, to show people, along with our other holiday photos, and, I've never done that in any of our travels throughout the world ! ! And, your restaurant was superb as well, food as well as the staff. I have been making the joking comment to people that it is a place that I want to live in (a little of me wasn't joking! ! ), and that I might retire there! !
Anyway keep up the good work, and, I look forward to staying in your establishment again, if I ever get the chance to be in Wellington again.
Cheers, Beverley (and Martin).

We enjoyed the central location. Helpful service and staff very apologetic when we reported rain coming in the window. (It was terrible weather). The French music in the bar was a bonus.

Had a lovely stay, the staff was excellent and we needed to bring our son who couldn't stay with a friend, the free upgrade was so appreciated. The Hotel is a cut above many and prices affordable.
We will most certainly be coming back as our daughter works in Wellington and you are so central to shops, restaurants, everything we needed. Thankyou.

Staff were great/fantastic
Lobby intersting and created lovely atmosphere
Room was grubby
- air con unit above bed - beyond stupid

helpful, caring and courteous staff, especialy in the restaurant, and when a taxi was required..when our friends visited they were impressed.

Disappointed with room cleanliness, visable dust on light shades and wall/ceiling adjacent to aircon vent.
Bathroom, dirty ledge along top of vanity - much more than just dust, needed a good scrub! Fluroscent light above mirror not working. Insufficinet hot water for two showers both mornings.
Had a lovely weekend in Wellington but will not stay at the Museum Hotel again.

We thought the accommodation was'tops' - probably made so as we were 'upgraded' much to our surprise and delight.Really enjoyed all the wonderul "art" in the foyer. Hotel is so close to the waterfront area and other environs - all within walking distance.
Very pleasant and helpful Staff. We will come again !! A big thank you.

Great facilities at a great price. Very friendly and caring staff. Comfortable and spacious room with a bathroom big enough to play cricket in! very quiet too, no noise from neighbours or the surrounding streets.

A great central location and very handy for children with the kitchenette, big bath and hotel pool. The friendly porter organised a portacot for us straight away. Excellent service! Thank you, we enjoyed our stay.

Comfortable rooms and helpful, friendly staff.
Interior design/ colours are inappropriately dark and oppressive. Poor choice for corridors especially.
I really appreciated your service by offering a 2nd room when only 1 was available at the stated price. I will certainly use your service in the future.
Thank you.

We had a great time - good impressions walking into the lobby, not your normal cookie-cut lobby, a little special. Good room with useful kitchenette (could do with a bottle opener). The hotel is in such a great location for walking around Wellington and accessing its wonderful waterfront.
A couple of issues - Wakefield and Cable streets are main roads through the city, so a bit of car noise the first night; TV system seems a bit clunky plus we got Prime rather than a sky sports channel

The hotel itself was fine and the room very well maintained, but there was a major fault for the modern traveller: Internet access in the room did not work. There were two PCs in the lobby, but one of them was out of commission as well, the other being occupied except for very late at night.
Hotels in the category of the Museum should have excellent in-room broadband internet access, just as they have a shower and a toilet. I pointed out that shortcoming and during my short stay I was told that something was going to be done, which it never was. Other guests queued at the one functioning lobby computer similarly rolled their eyes.
It really is not that difficult.

I thought the room was lovely. Instructions on which way to turn the knob for the jets in the bathroom would be very useful. Even though I didn't use the desk in the room, considering it has such great kitchen facilities, I thought the desk provided for dining was far too small. As a desk perfect but for dining - I didn't think it suited the room. I didn't notice one but a map of the Wellington inner city would have been helpful, especially for someone like myself who doesn't know Wellington. Instead of 2 chocolates, a brief map of Wellington central.

The internet site was totally transparent; making the booking was easy; the accommodation was excellent - in fact all round it was a faultless experience. Will definitely use Shortrates again.

Lovely room and great service. My only negative is the bathroom must share the same venting system as the kitchen and it smelt quite strongly of fat at times. very lovely decor and very quiet. will stay there again as it is so nice and very central.

You must make sure that customers are aware that Parking and Breakfast are extra. We are not used to hotels where breakfast is not included in the tariff, and it is not the norm across the western world and so on that basis, we thought it was expensive for Room Only Rate.
The staff were not particularly friendly for New Zealanders, and it was not busy. There was no smiling, or Welcome....I think there is a lot they can do to make it a more welcoming hotel.
As an expatriate New Zealander, I was not impressed, which is a shame because its a pretty hotel, in a good situation.
It was convenient being in the centre of the city and opposite the Museum.

assuming 5/5 = excellent service-you need to detail the rating scale to make this useful!
Very pleased with the hotel, loved the original art. Restuarant was good too and staff were efficient.
Room could have been cleaner and bathroom really needs to be done up as looking sad. Eg cracked tiles and worn patches on bath tub.
Good size room.

Assume 5 is highest 1 is lowest rating.
We had a great stay at Museum Hotel. Particularly enjoyed the art everywhere. I didn't see one piece I did not either like or find fascinating. Some info in pamphlet form re the collection would be great.
Did not enjoy the evening swim in the pool, so much. It is incredibly dark and gloomy in the pool area and we couldn't find instructions for using the spa pool. Fluffy white towels though!
I am a bit concerned that bed sheets were changed every morning, when energy conservation is such a big issue. Could this be an optional service? ie clients indicate with a sticker or similar if they are happy to sleep in the same sheets again, in the interests of a less depleted planet.

I was very impressed with the hotel, and would definitely stay there again. I loved the location, the staff were very friendly and pleasant and the rooms comfortable. Loved the fact that I could log on and get my emails with the computers in the lobby. A most enjoyable stay.

We stayed at the Museum Hotel for three nights and had a very pleasant stay there. The facilities were great, especially the spa and swimming pool. The staff were also very helpful. It was central to everything, only a 10 minute walk to town and 5 minute to Oriental Parade. The cheaper rooms only have a view of the tin roof next door, but I guess you don't come to Wellington to stay in your hotel room! All in all, would stay there again.
By Lorraine. On 15-May-2008

Very nice indeed, well appointed and thoughtfully designed.
The overlay of the wooden floor needs attended to at some stage as it has air pockets underneath which makes it feel slightly tenuous to walk on especially just inside the entrance.
Pleasurable stay.

was pretty satisfied with my stay at the "Museum Hotel du wheels". The hotel is well located opposite Te Papa Museum and within walking distance of everything: Courtenay Place Oriental Bay, and the city centre. The rooms are modern, the beds (especially) comfortable, and the amenities first class. Request a suite on the sixth/seventh floor to ensure you have a good view. The views from the levels below are blocked by part of the hotel! Enjoy! Thanks again ShortRates. great service. I'll be booking my next hotel in Wellington again soon.

The Museum Hotel is located across the street from Te Papa and a short walk from Courtenay Place. The cable car is about a 10-15 minute walk, and Parliament is about a 25 minute walk. I got the deal of a lifetime for this hotel, NZ$150 per night, so I was more than happy here. It was also a weekend in the middle of winter, so I am sure that had something to do with it. Rates on the website show standard rooms starting at $275 for weekdays and $230 for weekends.
The rooms are excellent - spacious with a big bathroom. It is a very comfortable place to stay. There is a restaurant and bar, in-room modems, and the location is good. The hotel also has an interesting history. It was supposed to be razed in 1993 to make room for the new Museum of New Zealand, but instead was lifted from its foundation, put on railroad tracks, and moved 120 metres to its present location. It is one of the largest buildings in the world ever relocated.
