Hi,
We tried to phone (twice) you on the 28th July to pick us up. Our plane was delayed 3hours.We ended up getting another shuttle to take us out to your place costing $20 and we saw your van parked there and thought everyone must be asleep so got in our car and drove back to Tauranga getting home at 6.45am. We were going to stay the night as both were real tired but did'nt like to wake you at 4am.
Our room and the meal were very good.

Definitely only a 1-2 star, but friendly staff and handy location to the airport. Very basic, dated, rooms though.

Shame there isn't 1/2 star, by far the worst standard of accom I have ever encountered, smells, dirty and unsafe, there must be someone that looks at min standards, I think they are self rated, rather a joke I feel, I ended up getting a taxi and moved to something much better, no way i could of slept with windows you couldn't lock/shut, worst experience I have ever had.

We were impressed with the service from the staff. Very courteous and polite and experienced. Really appreciated that as we had little local knowledge.
The continental breakfast was OK and it was included in the price. I will certainly consider staying at the Oakwood manor again.

Arriving at 1.30am shuttle nice and speedy, arrived at checkout had two staircases without handrails to manouver with two bags to get to room, either a door opened so could use walkway and trolley cases to room or a hand would have been appreciated.
Room very musty smelling and when went to get spare pillow it had been stored with a dirty (used) pillow case. Dying for a drink would have been great if the room ran to a cookie of some sort to have with the drink.
My car and I believe 5 others were broken into on new years eve. I had a 4 hour trip home with glass and drizzle in my car. HAssles trying to get information for police/insurance report and the realisation that there is no secure monitored area for vehicles, infact I was made to park my car away around the front in view of nothing but disused motel rooms close to the roadfrontage, at the time I assumed that was where all cars were to go but on my return my damaged vehicle was the only one there and no rooms near it were in use still and no one at reception had a view of the car, at least those in the park at the side were visible if staff wanted to see. If parking is being advertised the vehicles should be out of sight from the road and at least in view of staff if not in a secure area hard for public to access.I had to make 4 toll calls to Auckland and get rude to finally be given the police lodgement form to assist in getting my vehicle sorted. Had a call gone to my cellphone given on all the paperwork the day I left the vehicle, I could have had window work repaired ready for my return.

The Oakwood Manor was listed as 3-1/2 stars, but in reality is an older establishment worthy of only 2 stars.
It is close to the airport and the shuttle was fine and they do provide a reasonable breakfast, but it was a not a memorable place to stay.

This hotel is sub-standard by most criteria. Our room on arrival had dirty cups in the sink which was hidden in a cupboard.Although the bed had been made up the sheets were yellow and had obviously been slept in many times since their last wash. We were moved on request however it seems all the rooms are in desperate need of upgrading. The final straw was the hammering of noisy plumbing on the walls at 5am. Unfortunately I had paid for the room on arrival to beat the morning rush otherwise I would have refused to pay and let them sue me. Of course we completed a comments card but suprisingly have heard nothing from them. There are plenty of hotels around the airport - pick another one!

The rooms we were given had two singles. The ShortRates description was for a queen plus a single. The staff were awful. Unfriendly, inefficient and unhelpful - all except the lovely young man attempting to provide a good service in the restaurant. As for the restaurant? 3 of us ordered chicken salad but there was none (the waiter didn't know this); my son assures me the memorable burger is not only forgettable but should be deleted from one's memory banks asap. My alternative order of fish was delicious but nothing like what the waiter described. Overall? Compared with the low cost motels in the vicinity it certainly isn't the worst but it is misrepresented and the staff could do a heap to make the scruffy and noisy rooms less memorable and the customer service a highlight. I wouldn't stay again.

A case of getting what you pay for. Tired and a bit run down but clean room and more than edible restaurant meal. Staff tried very hard to assist and airport shuttle worked well.

Room advertised was queen + single: on arrival only queen, so slow move necessary.
Wakeup call requested for 0615: first call came at 0450, another at 0530, third at 0625! Fantastic

Unfortunately my experience at your hotel is marred by the fact I was initially given a room that had not been cleaned or linen changed from the previous occupants. It was however quickly dealt with once I pointed it out and given another room

Cheap and it shows. Needs refurbishing. Dining room needs upgrading. No table cloths. Asked for 3 different drinks, none of which were available. $25 for a plain roast meal, nothing extra. No ice in rooms, when asked for some at office, was given a small glass with 4 pieces of ice. Rooms had cobwebs and mildew. For convenience only, we re-booked for 3 nights later before flying out from Auckland, but when we arrived back, the wrong night had been booked - 3 weeks later!!! Very noisy with guests coming and going. Unable to sleep well. False advertising on web. Whole place needs an upgrade. Definitely off our accommodation list when travelling.

It is the worst place we have stayed in.
The room stunk of cat pee, the electric balnkets didn't work, we ran out of toilet paper at 2 am and no one answered the phone to get more. The breakfast area had no hot water, no milk, no spoons or knives, no serviettes.... It said a free airport shuttle and when we asked we were told the last one left at 9,40am and if we didn't take that then get a cab. Really really disapointed.

Just a brief note re: the lack of heating in our room. There was no source of heating available apart from electric blankets on the bed. Having flown in from Perth Western Australia where the daytime temperature was 29 degrees (27 degrees today)we certainly noticed the coolness of the night. That was the only disappointing thing regarding our stay. Otherwise everything else was fair value.

Excellent service by the night reception who managed to arrange for my transport to the airport when the shuttle was fully booked.

The room smelled very musty and damp and there seemed to be no information available on where we could go to get a nice meal. The lady at reception was very pleasant but, as well as being unable to help us with any decent restaurant options, forgot our requested wake up call and booked my sister onto the 4.30am shuttle when it was the 4.00am one we had agreed she would need. Luckily the driver took her anyway. Also, the following morning I had a continental breakfast and, when I requested Trim milk, was told that because the motel is a 3 star, the owners refused to supply it so the very kind lady at reception allowed me to use some from her own bottle that she brings to work with her. I don't believe Trim milk is a luxury item. Rather, it is simply a healthy alternative that a large portion of the population prefer. These things are simple service issues which can be rectified for no additional cost to the business but make the guest experience a whole lot smoother and more pleasant. Thanks Sonia

Lovely welcome, room absolutely fine, restaurant not great. Bad service eg. We had a bottle of water but no glasses, our 3 meals were bought out at all different times, dirty cutlery. Food very average. Great accommodation but the restaurant spoilt our stay.
By Debbie Stephens. On 04-Jan-2009

Restaurant meals were expensive and well below par. Service was rushed and harsh as there was not enough staff and the waitress had to become a kitchen hand during her shift. The room was clean and everything worked, but a little dated and the open motel format did not encourage safe feeling in the rooms as the doors only had a passage set lock on them. Cars drove in and out at all hours.

When we arrivied we filled out the registration form with details regarding early morning call (5.15am) for early flight.
We received no call which could have resulted in us missing a flight.
Having arrived a 6.00pm we went in for dinner at the resuarant at 7.00pm only to be told that we needed to have prebooked. Surely this should have been mentioned to us on our arrival. We then had to go to Manakua city for a meal. Not ideal when we were both very tired. So not happy. PLease refer to other comments concerning our stay 10 days later. As a further comment on our stay on the 12th. Since my flight didn't arrive till 2.30am it had been arranged for us to have an 11 am check out.
At 10.15am cleaners knocked on the door to ask us when we would be out. We told them of the late departure arrangement. At 10.45am reception rang to ask when we would be leaving!!! We eventually left at 11.00am as arranged. Obliviously cleaning ands reception staff had not been advised of this arrangement. Not good enough for an airport motel.
We have stay there regularly for probaly close to 30 years and our recent experiences have been not okay. And we have recommended this motel often. We will hestitate to recommend in the future and regretfully look closely at alternative accomodation for ourselves.

We had special deal of Bed and breakfast. Breakfast was stated as between 7.30 - 10.00am.
We arrived for breakfast at 9.40am we were told this was all that was left. A small amout of two types of fruit and some white bread for toast. There were no plates.
When we asked for a plate we were brought a saucer.
We have stayed at this motel regularly for probaly about 30 years and feel that this is not okay for a motel where it is the first point of contact for many overseas visitors. Not okay for New Zealand visitors either with this type of treatment. We will consider other options to stay more closely in the future. Up till now we had been very happy.

hotel was adequate to our needs.
However:
My American guest thought and I agree, that the front desk man was less than cheerful to deal with and in fact rather grumpy when my guest was unsuccessful in getting his e mail connection to work.his comment was" I dont know how to use it " and rather impatient at the seco even at budget hotels
we have jsut returned from an extended tour of Europe and the US and know that often hotel staff/ hospitality staff may be the only local people a visitor meets when en route to elsewhere and as such can influence a travellor to want to return., or not
Staff need to know that their task is not just simply the job of getting the booking s done but is truly a hospitality role.Overseas we had often our most welcoming experience at budget places which influenced our opinion of the city ....
Coffee at breakfast tasted like weak instant.
I wd not return with other guests .

Not a very good intro to NZ if you are from Osea's. Makes you glad to leave NZ if you are departing. Staff could do with a kiwihost course or two. Struggle to get anything beyond a grunt out of them.
Being an "airport hotel" one could safely assume when you have an early flight the next morning that IF you checked in after dinner the night before..ie...after 6pm that they would have food available to you. I arrived at 8pm off my domestic flight and was offered a packet of crisps and a can of sprite!
Rooms and decor are extremely stale, old, dated and something you would expect at your nanna's. On the plus side i guess you save $10 on a cab to the airport return with their FREE transfers and the crisps were ok
Not worth the $95 tarriff and definitely not 3*....try 1*

All aspects of staff service, helpfulness, politeness were a 5 as was the meal. The room is adequate and comfortable but the passageway, room, dining room would benefit from a decorating make-over and somehow the steps up need changing in some way - we would only give those aspects 3, hence the overall rating of 4.
We have stayed there before and will probably stay again sometime because the staff are so helpful.

Good value with airport transfers included.
We were not aware that you had to call the motel once you arrived to arrange pickup from the airport. We noted our arrival times etc in the comments on the booking form and assumed that was all we needed to do. We have already decided we would not stay at Oakwood Manor again. Our room was quite musty smelling and very in need of a make-over. We asked for a change of room which did smell better but still not great. The pillow cases weren't pressed looking and you wondered if they hadn't been changed from the last guests. The "Manor" is not close to any restaurants so you have to dine there. We arrived at 6.30ish and although there were only about 8 people in the dining room we were told we would have to book a time for dinner. We had to go back at 7.45 for our meal which seemed a bit ridiculous. The meal was just OK for us although one woman did send her meal back as she couldn't get her fork into the roast meat or the carrots she was served.
We have already told friends to avoid Oakwood Manor.

room was poorly sound proofed, heard every noise from the adjoining room also every person and there wheely bag come and go.
Booked the shuttle bus on arrival only to get to the bus at the arranged time and find there were ten people booked onto a bus that can carry only seven people. We caught a taxi, no big deal, however we stayed at this address a) it was recommended b) because it had a shuttle.
Was it a memerable stay? Yes. For the right reasons? NO

Rooms very old and dingy. Needs a good upgrade.
I am very fussy about bedding. Bed only double and probably about 30 years old. I doubted whether the sheets were clean. Certainly very old and need to be cut up for cleaning rags. Positive the spare pillows didn't have clean slips on them.
Continental Breakfast very good, however and apologies from a Staff member as there was no marmalade but she substituted jam instead. Her service was excellent.
Shuttle bus service good, although it wasn't noted that we were requiring a shuttle.
Doubt if we will stay there again.

Motel is getting very tired. We have stayed here several times now as we are able to leave our car here which is a great service. However, I do not think we will be using this motel again as we feel it needs renovation. Value for price is good, but it would not take very much to update.

Is #1 high or low?
First night we stayed on road side. On second booking requested a 'quiet' room. Stayed at the side and it was not 'quite' completely opposite: noisiest fridge I have ever encountered and people in the hallway talking loudly till the wee hours. Bed was not the most comfortable. Okwood Manor sounds grand - but isn't. It is very dated and very basic. We did not believe the bed had been changed in the first room we were allocated, as the bottom sheet had a stain and the pillows were very creased (like someone had slept on them). We didn't expect the coverlet to be spotless, but we also didn't expect it to be a stained as it was.
When we complained, we were given the room next door, which wasn't that much better - but at least the bed appeared to be clean.
There was a 'free continental breakfast' with the room. We were told it opened around 7am - we went to the breakfast room which didn't appear open at first. There was another couple in there, so we entered to have breakfast. We noticed that there were a few ants on the sideboard, when we lifted a bowl, it was alive with them. Someone came and removed the bowls - but didn't bother checking everything else. The muffins on offer had seen better days and tasted stale.
It was useful for one night, but definitely no longer.
The attitude of the staff was uninterested at best.
Not somewhere we would go back to - ever.

The room was tidy and clean but a bit dated.
We got a good rate through Shortrates, however we still got good service. When I arrived they only had a room near the road for the room grade we had selected. I asked if we could get a room away from the road and they gave us a free upgrade as there were no other rooms matching our grade available.

Always friendly and helpful staff, very clean rooms, efficient service, love the free airport shuttle... and the new soaps and shampoos are great, too! Thanks to the friendly people at Airport Oakwood Manor!

It would be a good idea when you know people are leaving at 3am to give them rooms away from the kitchen (doing dishes at 10PM) Cleaners hosing down mats outside my room at 12 midnight and advise guests arriving on the midnight flight that other guests are trying to SLEEP.So they DON'T have parties in their rooms on their first night in NZ.All in all I will not be staying here again and will not be recommending to anyone who wants accomodation near the airport as they would get more sleep elsewhere.

I left a comment form in the unit I shared with 2 friends from Australia last Friday night, March 14th.
We felt the unit was neglected and needed a revamp. The sheets and towels were threadbare. The kitchen cups chipped. The staff was off hand (mostly) and the restaurant staff member was overworked. She could not cope with the amount of customers, and my party were moved from our table, then not offered dessert or coffee. Very disappointing, as the situation was ideal.

When I phoned Oakwood from the airport, the receptionist told me she did not have my booking......I told her I would supply the confirmation # but she just said that those numbers meant nothing to her!. I asked then what could I do as here I was at the airport (6.30pm) and she was saying I did not have a booking. After a few anxious minutes she told me she would send the shuttle . I waited 45 minutes for it to arrive. When I got in the van, the gentleman told me there was no room at Oakwood so he was taking me to their sister property. this would have been fine normally, a sister property would probably have similar features!.
The receptionist at Silverpoint was great BUT the property had no internet and I specifically booked somewhere that indicated they had internet access in room, which by the way she noted that she could see that on my booking I had requested this. So they had my booking now!. Siverpoint had no internet. I was tired so decided I would take the room and sort it in the morning. The room was definitely substandard to Oakwood. Later that night I phoned reception to enquire as to the wherabouts of the iron....In the laundry opposite reception I was told. Again , not happy as I was expecting one in my room as this lovely lady indicated I would have had in Oakwood. Yes said I I booked there for a reason. I told her I understood that it was not her problem but I was not happy and needed internet access especially the next day to do some business. She said she would leave a note for the manager to contact me. I DID NOT HEAR FROM THE MANAGER! It appears this is a busy transit motel with people coming and going and I was woken at 4.30 by the guests next door leaving! I heard every word that was spoken and every creak in the floorboards as they went up and down the stairs!
Anyway suffice it to say that I feel I was shafted, when I had booked in good faith to stay in a motel that promised me internet access in my room, an iron in room and also a quiet location. I did however get my breakfast!
Will I book again to stay at the Oakwood Manor??? I very much doubt it.
I also work in the hospitality industry and if I had a guest whom I could for some reason not place when they had booked the room in good faith on a site such as yours, I would have made sure that where I placed them, they would have received an equal if not better deal! It would also be policy to inform the guest and make sure they were agreeable
Thank you for the opportunity to comment. I also intend writing to the Oakwood Manor expressing my dissatisfaction.

Very unfriendly and bad mannered service at the front desk reception. We were not made to feel welcome at all and all information given to us was very poorly communicated.
Would definitely choose to stay somewhere else in future.
